Finally my wifes stomach is bigger than mine...

Mel's had been away for a week shopping, leaving me to "take care of the house".
Upon her return I was delighted to discover that her belly had suddenly grown and she actually looked pregnant now. Over the course of the following three days it just seemed to keep growing and growing. And to top it all off the baby appears to be practicing for the kung-fu championship next week and she won't stop until its number one it seems.

It’s kind of a weird feeling I guess, but I'm slowly getting used to the sensation of bulging flesh. I couldn't help but draw parallels between the babies kicking and the scene from "Alien" as the creature explodes from Sigourney’s tummy.
Luckily it seems content to stay inside for the time being....just as well as Mel hasn't finished setting up the "baby’s corner".

I've just downloaded the application for Australian Citizenship obtainable by Descent. Seems to be pretty straight-forward and hopefully my friend at the consulate can help me out.
Of course the "applicant’s name" is still blank....we're still working on that one....at least I could fill half of it in....surname..."Cody".

I'm hoping that we could have another USG soon. I really like seeing the pictures. But I guess I'll just have to wait until the mother is ready...I think if it was me I'd carry a portable one round with me and scan my stomach every half an hour!

Well that’s it from me.

Will post more when I’ve got some news.

23 Weeks!!

She's so alive and kicking me all the time!!

weight gain : +2.9 kgs
bulging update : i'm finally looking pregnant this past week!
discomforts : been feeling very hot and sweaty, legs start to cramp once in a while, other than that it's been rather 'breezy'
exercise : a little stretching
craving : still nothing

I just got back from *yes* another trip out of town! One thing I gotta tell you is that how proud

I am my baby girl never ever complains!! We do share THAT same particular gene (if you know what I mean hehhehe). This time I went to Jakarta and did some baby shopping. I did really well I must say. And guess what gift I got from mom?!

A baby stroller!!! A very nice one too!!! Aren't we spoiled?!
She went to Bandung and bought some really nice clothes too. heheh.. I'm not complaining.

It's a dress from Ralph Lauren!! Once the baby grows out, it can become a top.. Nice ehh? She got this style in navy, red and pink. Each for only Rp. 59.000 (about A$ 8). What a bargain...

The baby girl has been so active and seems to be kicking and punching me all the time. It's always very exciting everytime it happens.. I love watching my stomach move, especially when I feel down, it really cheers me up. My auntie ended up mailing the crib. So, once it arrives, I'd like to start doing the baby corner up. Which reminds me, I need to get the wardrobe!!!

By the way, I've got 2 ultrasound pictures I forgot to post. Instead of scanning it one by one, I quickly grabbed my PDA and snapped the printouts *grins* So please excuse the great image quality :-)

This one on the right is a 3D image of the baby at 18 weeks. I believe she was sucking her thumb :D

(and for some odd reason, the second picture just doesn't want to show up. I'll try posting it again tomorrow!)

YOUR BABY THIS WEEK
...Week 23

Your baby weighs about a pound (.45 kg) and is approximately 8 inches (20 cm) long. No ore fruit comparisons—now he looks like a perfect, little doll!

Your Baby
Although his skin is still wrinkled, it’s starting to plump out as he continues to gain weight and develop more fat. He looks more and more like a “real” baby now, but sometimes the fine hair covering your baby’s body grows a little dark around this time.

Your Body
As the weight of your uterus once again shifts to rest on your bladder, you may have more problems holding urine. But be aware that a “gush” of liquid or constant leaking could mean that you are losing amniotic fluid, and you should call your doctor right away. You may also experience some emotional mood swings—unexpected highs and lows and maybe even some tears or fears. Emotional swings are linked to normal hormone activity and should pass as your pregnancy progresses. If not, mention it to your doctor.

20 Weeks

Backpains.... here they come!!! *ouch*

Yeap!!! The honeymoon period is slowly drifting away.. *cries* I must have pulled a muscle or two yesterday, ohh maannn my tailbone was stuffed! I couldn't walk, sit down or move for a few minutes, at least until one of the maids rubbed my lower back. Trying to put pants on is another different story *cringing helplessly*. I'm not sure, I'm either feeling so old or so pregnant (and the bulging is not even much yet!!).

But I just know that once my baby girl is born, all of these will be long forgotten and will be all worthwhile O:-)

YOUR BABY THIS WEEK
...Week 20

Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. She's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom, and about 10 inches from head to heel. (For the first 20 weeks, we use measurements taken from the top of the baby's head to her bottom — known as the "crown to rump" measurement. After that, we use measurements from head to toe. This is because a baby's legs are curled up against her torso during the first half of pregnancy and are very hard to measure.)

A greasy white substance called vernix caseosa coats her entire body to protect her skin during its long submersion in amniotic fluid. (This slick coating also eases the journey down the birth canal.)

Your baby is swallowing more, which is good practice for her digestive system. She's also producing meconium, a black, sticky substance that's the result of cell loss, digestive secretion, and swallowed amniotic fluid. This meconium will accumulate in her bowels, and you'll see it in her first messy diaper (although a few babies pass it in utero or during delivery).

The top of your uterus is at the level of your belly button now, and you've likely gained about 10 pounds. Expect to gain an average of about another pound each week from now on. (If you started your pregnancy underweight, you may need to gain a bit more; if you were overweight, perhaps a bit less.) Make sure you're getting enough iron, a mineral that's used primarily to make hemoglobin (the part of your red blood cells that carries oxygen). During pregnancy, your body needs more iron for your developing baby and the placenta, and to keep up with your expanding blood volume. Iron-rich foods include lean red meat, poultry, fish, lentils and other legumes, spinach, and iron-fortified cereals.

19 weeks 6 days

Now that we've got Ahren, mom thought it's time to renew our family portrait. here's one of them, just the way we like it :)

There isn't much news on the pregnancy side, I guess that's why they call the second trimester the 'honeymoon period'. I somehow still feel some nausea, which most of the times must have something to do with the kind of food I consume *sheepish grin*. One last worst feeling I had was right after I finished one fillet o'fish burger from MacD. Wow, the first 'bule' food my baby girl rejected!!!

Ahren's away from me until the 10th. *longest sigh*. This sux. Since the 3rd month, I've become the biggest crybaby (ok, maybe I exagerate a little there heheh) whenever he has to go for a few hours. This time, there's little I could say and chose not to. He'll be back in a few days time and will be all mine again *grin*.

I went through what sorts of baby stuff I've acquired, and it seems like the list is still long! (wow, MORE shopping!!). I'm lucky as I don't need to buy either a stroller, crib or cotbed. Some of my 6 y.o. cousin's old stuff can be passed down to my baby. Yippeee!! My next mission is to find an affordable but practical wardrobe.

Btw, here's that 6 y.o. cousin I'm getting my cotbed etc from :) Isn't she the cutest or what?!

I'm not the prettiest anymore coz.... It's a GIRL!!! - 19 weeks 2 days

Just before we left for HKG (we left on the October 27), I had another ultrasound and after lotsa encouragement to the baby to open up her legs, we could see that it's a baby girl!! Wow! I was very excited! That meant, I could start buying girly stuffs :D
Anyway, this baby girl seems to inherit the mother's genes, which is an extreme shopper in particular! hahaha... seriously, we were out shopping from 10am and would not come home til 11.30pm. I could keep up with the rest of the group! I did though suffer some sore legs and some backpains but after a cup of tea at a cafe, I was all recharged. (you see what I mean?!) All Ahren could say was "... oh uh.." hehehe..

weight gain : +1.9 kgs
bulging update : all of a sudden, after day 1 in Hkg, it really showed! a few days before that everyone still said how come I didn't look like I was almost 5 months pregnant at all. Right now people say I look like I was close to 4 mths pregnant. Ohh well, can't complain right?!
discomfort : still urinate alot, sometime backpains, 'tight' feelings around the stomach
exercise : lotsa and lotsa walking
craving : nothing.

16 Weeks 6 Days

weight gain : lupa-lupa aja mo nimbang...
bulging update : looking rounder each day
discomfort :
still beser, gassy, bloaty, sniffy, fluey
exercise :
still none
craving :
emmm, still nothing ( i think?!)

*sniffs*
I'm coming down with a flu!!!!! dang it. It was so hard to sleep last night with an aching throat, one stuffed nose and one VERY dry nose. Luckily, Ahren was real nice and didn't mind me turning the AC off, otherwise I wouldn't be able to get any decent sleep.

haiyaaaaahhh.... kenapa saya mesti sakit pula??? How's the baby inside yea.. is he/she sniffing too? *grins*So..., gak jadi deh buat vietnamese spring rolls seperti yang direncanain kemaren. Maybe lusa?!
Anyways, one thing that we both realized is that I get very attached and clingy to Ahren for the past 3-4 weeks. hihihi... He really doesn't mind as usually I am the independent type of wivey.

Well, pregnancy is full of surprises, isnt it?

16 Weeks 5 Days

Gak tau kenapa, today I was in a baking mode all day. First, I had to make some more Chocolate Brownies buat Hahndorf's... and after that I started mashing some bananas and came across a modified recipe that's originally from Quaker Oatmeal website. Namanya 'Cocoa Banana Oatmeal Muffin'.
Came out of the oven smelling really good, tapiiiiii setelah a little bit of tasting, YUCK! It tasted
WAY too healthy - not that it's a bad thing. (kalau mau recipenya, silakan minta ya :)
Mungkin kalo dimakan sama vanilla ice cream, bisa yummy... Yah, gimana gak healthy,
gula dikit, telur 1, mentega 5 sdm, pake rolled oatmeal, pisang, bubuk cocoa.
hmmmm...

Anyways, as the muffins seen as a failure, I decided to mash some more bananas.
A few days ago, my friend Didi attempted to make Steamed Banana Cake. So today, I thought I'd challenge his cake *evil's grin*
Eventhough it must have been the hurriest measuring and mixing I've ever done, the cake turned out justttttt nice. O yea, mungkin in Indonesian rasanya seperti
Kue Apem.

2 eggs
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 riped banana, mashed
1 cup plain flour, sifted
1/2 tsp soda bicarbonate
1/2 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt

1. Add soda into the mashed banana and mix till well blended
2. Sift flour with baking powder and set aside
3. Beat eggs and sugar untill fluffly, add sifted flour mixture and mix till well combined
4. Add mashed banana and a bit of salt and stir slowly to incorporate them into the flour batter
5. Pour batter into a well greased baking pan and steam on high heat for about 45min or till cooked

Besok, kalo belum abis, saya foto yaahhhh :D

After that, we had to hurry to this function hall as Alice was performing some dances. She was pretty good actually!
Ahren also had his turn to perform as a wedding singer on the stage later on the night
*chuckles* Too bad you all missed it!

16 Weeks 1 Day

How your baby's growing : At 4 1/2 inches (kira-kira 12 cm) long (head to bottom) and 3 1/2 ounces (100 gr), your baby is about the size of an avocado. In the next three weeks, she'll go through a tremendous growth spurt, though, doubling her weight and adding inches to her length. Her lower limbs are much more developed now. Her head is more erect than it has been, and her eyes have moved toward the front of her head. Your baby's ears are close to their final position, too. Some of her more advanced body systems are working, including her circulatory system and urinary tract. Her heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, circulating her total blood volume through her body many times. (By the end of your pregnancy, this will increase to about 190 quarts.) The patterning of her scalp has begun, though her hair isn't recognizable yet. Although closed, her eyes are moving (slowly), and she's even started growing toenails.

Soon you'll experience one of the most wonderful moments of pregnancy — feeling your baby move. While some women notice "quickening" as early as 16 weeks, most don't until about 18 weeks or more. If this is your first baby, don't be too anxious — you may not be aware of your baby's movements until 20 weeks or so. The earliest movements may feel like little flutters, gas bubbles, or even like popcorn popping. Over the following weeks they'll start to feel unmistakably like kicks.

Just thought we'd post a couple of the ultrasound images :)

See the arrow pointing on the little white dot? The dot looks like ... :-D

15 weeks 3 days

ahren says :

So Imelda is coming into her 16th week now and apparently you can tell the sex of the baby soon. Actually she is only at 15 weeks and 2 days but we are all so excited to know that we kind of forced Imelda to take a USG!
Mrs Khoman is particularly curious as she would like to know what colour of clothes to buy....for boy or girl!

So into the Doctors practice Imelda went. I quickly grabbed the video camera, Alice grabbed a toy gun for some reason (!?) and we all convened where the USG machine was stationed.
Imelda’s dad assumed "Doctor" mode, changing his tone and manner and I assumed "proud dad" mode, rolling the camera.
The only problem with our plan was that the baby must have been embarrassed and had its legs closed! After some time trying to see, we thought we needed a different approach.
Imelda rolled onto her sides, and we tried to look from there....nothing.
No matter how much we tried to motivate it, the baby just didn't want to show us its goodies.

Being extremely frustrated with the whole predicament I gave up on the whole venture. I turned off the camera.
It was at this time that I rather clumsily blurted out "Well if it is a girl I guess having its legs closed is a good sign..."
I then remembered I was in the presence of Mel's mum and dad.....
Luckily the good Dr. burst into a short machine-gun like laughter...I wasn't sure if he was amused or shocked and just wanted to break the silence...!

We decided that one last attempt at determining the sex remained. Imelda got up from the examination chair and proceeded to jog gently and move up and down on the spot. The whole thing was extremely humorous. Of course the jogging was aimed at trying to move the baby into a new position so that we could see some glimpse of what it was we so desperately wanted to see.

Imelda sat back in the chair..."Papi" applied more jell to the instrument and we all fixed out gaze on the screen...Like a Nasa team at the Houston base trying to identify an unidentified object we scoured the images for any sign of protruding flesh.
Of course, having only seen a USG a handful of times in my life and not the best at navigation I didn't really have any idea of where to look.
"What’s that?" I said gleefully....pointing to what I thought could be a promising sign..."The doctor replied..."a finger"...
"O yeah" I replied and moved out the way...

Minutes passed....the silence was excruciating. Alice repeated over and over again "Cowok atau Cewek" (Girl or Boy)" we all shhhed her as suddenly the babies legs opened.
"What's this?" the Doc exclaimed. "I think this is a boy..."
We all looked at the white mass that was between the legs of the baby
"Ini telurnya?" Mami said pointing to the screen.
Loosely translated I think that means..."This is the testicle?" Although telur also means egg so I was a little confused...
Everyone burst into laughter...
"Burung Ma!" Imelda said with a smile on her face
Burung means "bird", which also means winky...

Imelda then said that some babies can have protruding va-jay-jays, at which my father-in-law replied its is quite rare, and that most likely it was a boy. However in the coming weeks we would get full confirmation.

I guess we will have to wait and see...

We've archived pretty much everything. I'm hoping to get some video footage uploaded soon so stay tuned!

mel says :

sang 'peanut' udah ga bisa dibilang peanut lagi. Biarpun gue kepengeennnn banget tau sex si baby apa, gue mencoba sabar. Soalnya, kan ini masih jalan 16 mg. Masih belum jelas sebenernya biarpun di USG. Tapii, calon oma dan calon bapak udah ga sabar. Jadi deh di USG juga pas 15w2d. Si baby kayaknya lagi tidur deh pas mulai USG. Posisinya : telungkup dengan plasenta diatas perut (hebat ga tuh, plasenta dijadikan bantalan hihihi). Gak lama kemudian, mulai gerak2 dikit2. Tapi tetap aja kedua kakinya masih ditekuk dan pas papi mindahin scanner USGnya, kakinya makin dirapetin. Akhirnya gue iseng poke2 dikit hihi (ssstt) sambil suruh Alice ngomong2 dikit dong sama babynya biar ngengkeng hahahha.. Gak berhasil juga. Hmmppffffhhhhhhh. Udah selang 20 menit akhirnya papi bilang coba deh berdiri dulu jalan2 dikit 5 menitan. Ternyata manjur lhooo... Dari kepalanya yang pertama USG sebelah kanan, jadi pindah total ke sebelah kiri. Gak lama kemudian kakinya rada ngengkeng..dan sepertinya ada 1 titik yang kata papi (katanya sihhh) seperti penis.
Waddooowww... langsung Ahren & Alice sama2 high-five!!!! Sinting! Hepinya dua mahluk itu.

Well, biarpun belum pasti2 100%, (gue bilang, mungkin ini case of "protruding vagina/clit) hehehhe), moga2 2-4 mg berikutnya udah ketauan yaaa. Biar tau mo beli baju warna ke cewe2an ato cowo2an. Ya gak?!

weight gain : untung weight gain masih under control. mungking sebabnya pas ketauan hamil, trus ga lamanya kan mulai mual2 seharian, ga bisa makan ini dan itu, makanya dari mg 5 - mg 13 sempat turun 2 kg-an. Skrg udah balik ke berat sebelum hamil dan baru +0.1 kg.
bulging update : my waistline is looking thicker. tummy hasnt really bulged unless i wear a swimsuit (probably). i think i look like i just ate at a buffet restaurant and finished everything :D
discomfort : mostly at night time, toilet trips could be 5-6 times a night, sleeping on left side could make my muscles ache sometime too. Certain cooking smells still a no-no. Cant eat alot otherwise I get pukey or very bloaty/gassy/burpy.
exercise : still planning :D
craving : nothing so far!
baby's heartbeat : 158 beats/minute

How your baby's growing at 15th weeks : At around 4 inches long, crown to rump, your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 ounces. He's busy inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid, which will help develop the air sacs in his lungs. His legs are growing longer than his arms now, and he can move all his joints and limbs. That means his hands are more functional, too. Sweat glands are appearing, and although his eyelids are fused shut, he can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, he's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but his taste buds are beginning to form. And if you have an ultrasound, you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or girl! (Don't be disappointed if it remains a mystery, though. Nailing down the gender depends somewhat on how clear the picture is and the position of your baby during the ultrasound; he may be curled or turned in such a way as to keep you in suspense.)

10 - 11 week!

"Your baby is no longer an embryo! Though she's barely the size of a kumquat — just an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, she now has completed the most critical portion of her development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in her body rapidly grow and mature. Her vital organs — the liver, kidney, intestines, brain, and lungs — are now in place and starting to function (although they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy). Her liver continues to make blood cells, and the yolk sac, which previously supplied these cells, is no longer needed and begins to disappear.

During the next three weeks, your baby's length will more than double to nearly 3 inches. Her head is proportionately smaller now than it was a few weeks ago, but it's still almost half the length of her entire body. Her forehead temporarily bulges with her developing brain and sits high on her head; it will later recede to give her a more human appearance. Each day, more minute details — including tiny fingernails, toenails, and peach-fuzz hair — start to appear on her body. Her fingers are now completely separated; her arms bend at the elbow and curve slightly; her hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over her heart; her legs are lengthening; and her feet may be long enough to meet in front of her body. She is busily swallowing amniotic fluid and kicking her legs."

* morning sickness? still hasn't completely gone away.. :(
* bloaty and gassy? hasn't either and it does get worse sometimes
* bizzare dreams? can't seem to have enough of them
* feeling sluggish? yup!
* and a million other things..

Oh, let's not forget how yucky I feel in all of the clothes I own!
